Restoration and Repairs

Once a piece begins to look damaged, tired or simply worn out, why not consider having it restored rather than replaced? This is both cost-effective for you and good for the environment, cutting down on the use of landfills.

As a furniture restoration expert I understand the importance furniture can hold. That’s why I always look to provide a personal approach to each project, giving it the attention that it requires.

I’m able to provide furniture restoration and repair throughout Shropshire. If you’re looking for a professional and friendly restoration service, get in touch with me today and we can discuss any furniture projects you have in mind.

"I can offer a complete furniture restoration and repair service, from a simple glue repair to a full 'back to bare wood' restoration for all your wooden and upholstered furniture."

Have any queries or urgencies?

"In most cases, the old or damaged finish can be stripped back to bare wood and re-polished to its original, as-new condition. In the case of a dark finish that has become increasingly unpopular, it can even be lightly stained to give a modern finish and a new lease of life".

Traditional French Polishing is used where appropriate, particularly when restoring antique furniture. I utilise the time-honoured practice of building up an exquisite finish that becomes part of the wood, allowing the full beauty of the wood grain and original craftsmanship to be fully appreciated.

Simple wax finishes can be applied to pine and lighter surfaces after sealing the wood while oil finishes can be rejuvenated to a condition as good as new. More durable lacquers are used where a hard-wearing surface is needed to stand up to the rigours of daily wear and tear.

All wood items can be restored - tables, chairs, chest of drawers, cabinets, clocks and many more.

UPHOLSTERED FURNITURE

As with wooden furniture I can provide a complete repair and restoration service, from recovering seat pads to full frame up restorations of all Antique chair and sofas etc.

Saggy seats can be re-sprung or cushion inners that have collapsed can be replaced.

Our reupholstery involves removing the existing covers, inspecting the frame and padding while replacing as necessary. We then sew up new covers from the existing patterns to ensure a perfect fit, available in the fabric of your choice.

At John Hammond Furniture Restoration and Repair you can find a full range of fabrics and leathers ready for you to browse through at your leisure.

Cherished and inherited items

Much of my work involves the restoration of the above. These may have no real monetary value but be priceless in sentimental value, especially if it belonged to loved ones.

I have worked on everything from old sewing machines and rocking chairs to boxes and HiFi speakers - almost anything you can imagine that is treasured can be restored to its former glory.
